Now, that authors of WS-Security have submitted specification to OASIS and given their approval to progress the work based on web services security roadmap under the WSS committee’s wings, the question whether SAML, WS-Security, Liberty Alliance and a handful of other XML security standards will interoperate starts not to be preceded by “if”, but rather by “when”. The same applies if you swap “SAML” for “web access management vendors”, “WS-Security” for “IBM and Microsoft” and “Liberty Alliance” for “Sun”.

If past performance of Security Services and Access Control committees is used as indicator, we can expect the standards can be ready in 1-2 years timeframe and their implementation very soon after this.
